As a young officer I found it fun to sit and listen to the stories of the senior officers when we went for coffee.
Dave was always a community minded officer, content to make sure that everyone got home safely, and that everyone was happy, or as happy as could be, with their interaction with Police.
Dave told me a stoy of his contact with a senior member of the community. The gentleman owned a nice car, a Lincoln I believe, white with "plush red seats, a beautiful car", according to Dave. The fellow had a medical condition and could not drive. He was being transported away to have the medical issues dealt with, but was worried about leaving his car on the side of the road, afraid that someone would damage it.
Dave asked the man if wanted the car towed. The gentleman didn't want that to happen as he was on fixed income and couldn't really afford it. Dave asked the man if he minded if he, Dave, drove the car home for him? The man agreed and Dave made arrangements to have another officer drive his cruiser, and he would drive the car to the man's home.
Dave said he got in the car and marvelled at how nice it was, and how soft and comfortable the seats in this car were, then he realized that is butt and legs were somehow getting wet. He said he sat there for a few moments before he realized that the wetness was coming from the seats in the car, and that the older gentleman must have wet himself sitting in the drivers seat as the wetness was warm. Dave went on to say that it was the quickest drive to the drop the car off, then to his house to get a shower and new uniform. "I showered for an hour!" Dave said. He also said it was the last time he drove anyone's car home!
